As the Investigative Committee told the publication, after the start of hostilities in Donbass, a criminal community was created.
“The gang’s goal is kidnapping and human trafficking,” the publication notes. – The bosses involved subordinates from regional departments of law enforcement agencies into the criminal community. The general principle of operation looked like this. Cases were illegally brought against Russians, then they were given suspended sentences, and then kidnapped to be exchanged for Ukrainian military personnel who were captured by the defenders of the unrecognized Donetsk and Lugansk republics.
The UK cited two cases as examples. A Russian citizen who was in Ukraine was detained on a flimsy pretext on suspicion of “an attack on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” Under threats, the man broke down and agreed with the charges and made a plea deal with the prosecutor to plead guilty. The court gave him a probationary period. After that, he was forcibly taken to another region of Ukraine, where he is still illegally kept under lock and key.”
Another citizen of the Russian Federation was in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“He was detained and accused of allegedly illegally transporting citizens across the border,” reports RG. “Since there were no facts, they gave me a suspended sentence and on the same day they took me to one of the so-called “secret prisons,” where they kept me until they were exchanged for the Ukrainian military.”
