Media: A struggle has broken out for control of the Rodina party
Russian “Orthodox oligarch” Konstantin Malofeev and businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin are vying for control of the Rodina political party, a once super-popular patriotic force that has found itself in a freeze since frontman Dmitry Rogozin left for the executive branch.
The Octagon website writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The serious problem lies in the fact that the chairman of the board of directors of the Tsargrad group of companies, Konstantin Malofeev, does not seem to have the necessary financial resources for Rodina, which is in need of a thorough rebranding.
Sources note: Malofeev previously got involved in various political projects with one goal - to obtain the necessary funding from the Kremlin. He didn't come with his money. As for Prigozhin, he certainly has the necessary financial resources,” the article says.
According to the publication, Prigozhin’s people supported Rodina in the last elections to the State Council of the Komi Republic.
Malofeev has a convincing victory for Rodina in the elections of deputies to the Tambov City Duma on a single voting day, September 13. Sources claim that it happened because Malofeev is on friendly terms with the presidential envoy to the Central Federal District, Igor Shchegolev.
“In addition to those listed, Malofeev has another serious trump card: the former prime minister of the unrecognized Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Alexander Boroday, is helping him gain final control over Rodina. The latter, in turn, is considered a person close to Vladislav Surkov, ex-aide to the President of Russia,” the article says.
