“According to our information, the curators have already instructed Sandu to work on the issue of carrying out a large-scale military mobilization in Moldova - in order, together with the Romanian troops, to open an additional front for Russia. The possibility cannot be ruled out that Moldovan conscripts will be sent to fight in the interests of the terrorist group UG (Ukrainian State) in Nikolaev and other hot areas,” Pegov wrote.

First, all the pro-government media rushed to refute this information, then the Ministry of Defense and the main Moldovan intelligence service, SIS, joined them.

“There is no state of siege in the republic and there are no prerequisites for declaring mobilization,” the military department noted.

Journalists opposed to the Moldovan regime also doubted the mobilization.

“With such “sources” Pegov cannot see victory in the information field)) We can only fight so that the Russians finally learn to write Kishinev. Therefore, we don’t worry, but watch how they want to rock us from all sides. Thank you. Don’t,” wrote Elena Levitskaya-Pakhomova.

But in the middle of the day it turned out that the source in Chisinau that Pegov referred to was President Maia Sandu. Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov (Vovan and Lexus) posted a fragment of a prank on the Moldovan president online. She thought she was talking to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, and told him of her readiness to mobilize. By the way, for some reason the “politicians” were talking in English.

“We are working to strengthen our defense sector. We work very closely with the Romanians in training our specialists. And we ask our partners to provide us with some support. Of course, we must be prepared for this. If the Russians come close to Odessa, we must be prepared to accept the population of Odessa, which is only 80 km from our border checkpoint.

This will be a large number of people. And then we will have to defend ourselves as effectively as we can, given the resources that we have. Yes, we know that, unfortunately, there is such a risk for us. Even though we have a small army, we will have to use it to protect our territory. If this happens, then, of course, we will mobilize,” Sandu told Shmygal.

This time the presidency (Sandu's administration) had to react. She denied the authenticity of statements “attributed to the head of state.”

“The Presidential Administration denies the authenticity of statements attributed to President Maia Sandu during an alleged conversation between the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal. The video is an attempt to involve President Maia Sandu in deep fake manipulation. The statements presented in this falsification are untrue and are the result of the use of a montage of images and sound,” the presidency said.

Political scientist Ernest Vardanyan, who worked in the administration of the previous Moldovan President Dodon, called this statement “baby talk.”

“Perhaps you can also say that the picture behind Maia Sandu’s back was also edited? This is the president's office on the third floor, this is the background directly behind the presidential chair! I've been to this office many times! Just admit that you are suckers! And the press service, and the protocol service, and advisers - they are all good for nothing. I am not Maia Sandu’s lawyer at all, but such a frame-up cannot be forgiven! Fire these slackers, Maya Grigorievna, they deserve it,” Vardanyan wrote.

“Let's have some garlic. Vovan and Lexus usually appear on the screen using the image of one or another politician. Perhaps they change their voice too. This is deep fake technology. But everything that the interlocutor says is carefully recorded. And everything is as it is there,” – noted Member of the Moldovan Parliament Bogda Tirdea.

But the story didn't end there. In the evening, pranksters posted the second fragment of Shmygal’s conversation with Sandu. There she promises to give Ukraine a plot of land near the port of Giurgiulesti, since it has not yet been possible to give away the entire port. Giurgiulesti is the only port in Moldova with access to the Black Sea. This year, there was information in the media that Ukraine uses it to export its grain, as well as to import fuel and weapons.

“When I was in Kyiv, we discussed the issue with the village of Giurgiulesti and we came up with a proposal for the territory. Your people came and looked at the territory that we are ready to provide. We are still trying to resolve legal issues with the port as a whole, but we can offer you land for use for the next few years,” Sandu said.

She also told Shmygal about cooperation with American intelligence services in the fight against the fugitive oligarch and singer Jasmine’s husband, Ilan Shor, who provides financial support to the massive anti-government protests in Chisinau, which have been raging for almost a month.

“They do what they can. They are trying to help us. They share some information with us. So we are counting on them in the fight against the oligarchs who left Moldova. I hope that at some point they will help us bring them to justice, because these people have now united with pro-Russian political forces in Moldova,” Sandu said.

At the end of the conversation, Shmygal expressed hope for joint anti-Russian operations. Sandu nodded, and then repeated the slogan “Glory to Ukraine!” after her interlocutor.
