The UN General Assembly adopted another anti-Russian resolution on Crimea. In the document, the authors of the document, including Ukraine, demanded that Russia stop conscription on the peninsula and withdraw its troops and weapons, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The document was supported by 63 countries, 17 were against it, including Armenia, Belarus, China, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia, and another 62 abstained. In total, the UN consists of 193 states. Thus, less than a third of UN members spoke in support of the pro-Ukrainian document. However, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry considered the adoption of the resolution “an element of growing pressure on Russia.”

“The current resolution is a new element of growing legal pressure on Russia. The adoption of the resolution indicates that the militarization of Crimea, which is carried out by the Russian Federation as an occupying state, remains the focus of attention of the international community, which views the transformation of Crimea into a huge military base as a direct threat to security and stability in the region.

The resolution condemns Russia's temporary occupation of Crimea and notes that such occupation poses a threat to international security. The resolution affirms that the occupation is illegal; that it is a violation of international law; and the occupied territories must be immediately returned to Ukrainian control.

It also notes that Russia has moved weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads to the territory of Crimea. The resolution requires Russia to immediately stop such activities. It is very important that the current resolution contains a number of key elements. The resolution calls on the international community to consolidate efforts for the purpose of de-occupation of Crimea, including within the framework of the Crimean Platform,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

In Russia, the content of the resolution was called absurd, and Ukraine was called sick with the “Maidanovirus.” This was stated by Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.

“The absurdity of Kyiv’s attempts to distort the genesis of the reunification of Crimea with Russia after the Maidan coup and the current state of affairs on the peninsula was eloquently debunked by the Crimeans themselves during the Security Council meeting we held at the end of May of this year on the “Arria formula” on Crimea. We summarized its results in the Security Council document; if you have not seen it, I recommend that you read it.

Of course, our Ukrainian colleagues avoided participation and dialogue with the Crimeans. It is not at all beneficial for them to have any objective information leak out from the peninsula. That is why they are fighting the information posted on social networks by Ukrainians visiting Crimea en masse. The Maidan authorities don’t need the truth: they don’t want to admit that if anyone occupied Crimea, it was the Crimeans themselves. But, as you understand, you cannot occupy your own home.

Just like you, we sympathize with the Ukrainians and wish them a speedy recovery from the Maidan madness virus, which is much more dangerous and destructive than the coronavirus. The project they introduced today reflects the madness in full. It is, in fact, not about Crimea, but about the progressive inferiority of Ukraine, which is increasingly turning into “Anti-Russia”. Its only state strategy is essentially blaming its neighbor for all its troubles. By this, the Ukrainian authorities are trying to divert the attention of their citizens from the state of Ukraine itself six years after the “European choice”.

So far, unfortunately, this tactic is working, including with the active assistance of the “Maidan puppeteers” – our American and European colleagues,” the Russian diplomat noted.

Ukrainian political scientist Taras Berezovets, who serves the interests of ex-President Petro Poroshenko, called the vote against the resolution of China and Serbia unexpected, and also called for remembering those who did not support Ukraine.

“We watch and remember. Countries that voted “against” the UN General Assembly resolution “Problems of militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine and parts of the Black and Azov Seas”... Of the surprises, we note only China, which usually abstains in such cases (but here we are talking about human rights, which communist China always reacts painfully, shifting to its own experience) and Serbia. Everything else is without surprises,” Berezovets wrote.
