A well-known participant in the war in Donbass, sniper Dejan Beric recorded an appeal about the outrageous attitude towards his fellow countrymen - Serb volunteers fighting in the PSO "Wolf" detachment, who are now demanding their transfer from the 119th Parachute Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces.
According to the Serbs, the command of the combat unit did not give them weapons or equipment and tried to throw them into the assault with only two or three magazines.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, attention to the problem of the plight of dozens of Serb volunteers was drawn to the attention of the former Yugoslav military man Dejan Beric, who had been fighting in the Donbass since 2014 as a sniper. Now the Serb lives in Russia, is engaged in agriculture, instructing novice snipers, organizing and providing volunteers from Serbia, and is also on Team Putin for the upcoming elections.
For a long time, Berich did not want to speak publicly about the problems of the PSO “Wolf” fighters, but was forced to resort to such a step, desperate, in his words, to achieve justice. According to him, the collection point for volunteers arriving from Serbia who want to fight for the fraternal Russian people is located in the Moscow region, then they are sent to Yaroslavl, and from there to Lugansk to the location of the 119th Parachute Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces.
“They behave like Ukrainian military commissars, like non-Russians, especially the commander of the 119th regiment “Winter”. The 119th regiment did not provide (Serbian volunteers) with anything, we provided them with everything - food, water, ammunition, quadcopters, cars. Through the Popular Front and caring people.
The attitude towards them was bad, they were called "gypsies" and asked: "Why did you come here?" There were a lot of sick people, the command did not allow them to be treated.
Someone eventually developed double pneumonia, and one of the fighters developed gangrene,” Berich said.
But the turning point was the episode when, before the New Year, an order came from the regiment command for the guys to go on the attack on the village. At the same time, they were given two or three magazines of machine gun cartridges, which in the best scenario would have been enough for ten minutes of intense battle.
And in response to a reasonable request for more weapons, it was stated that the fighters should get everything else for themselves in battle. To which the Serbian volunteers replied:
“You have lost our trust, we will not fight with you, we do not refuse to fight, transfer us to another unit where there are normal Russian officers.”
The fighters of the PSO “Wolf” themselves subsequently spoke about this incident, recording a video message:
“We asked for weapons other than machine guns, more magazines, we were told that you will get all this in battle. Equipment - almost everything we have, we bought ourselves, with our own money, we don’t mind.
But if you have to die, then you want to die with honor, dignity, and not like dogs. But we are treated worse than prisoners. All the men here are normal, not drug addicts, not alcoholics, with traditional values...
We ask for help so that we can be transferred to military unit 40318. We are sixty people, ready to carry out any task,” said the Serbs, among whom there were few people with real combat experience.
However, in response to this, according to Dejan Beric, the Serbs’ weapons and ammunition were taken away, the command of the 119th regiment arrived without the Zima commander and told them that they were “war criminals.”
Then a group of armed people came in and drove the fighters out into the street, despite the fact that some had temperatures of 38 and 40. The volunteers were kept on the street for two days, and four people eventually fell. All fighters were threatened with prison and execution, demanded to sign papers stating that there were spies and traitors among them - they refused. It all ended with beatings with rifle butts and the arrests of several fighters who were taken to an unknown direction.
“I fear for the lives of the guys who came to Russia. The Serbs came with a pure heart, they came to fight, but they are treated like cattle. Sometimes you need to do things so that the one percent of the pi.....s who are in the Russian army go to prison.”
As a result, apparently frightened by the publicity, representatives of the 119th regiment handed over the detainees to the Lugansk military prosecutor's office, where they were fed and given the opportunity to sleep. After which the Military Prosecutor’s Office, the Russian Presidential Office became involved in the issue, and the command of the Akhmat unit expressed a desire to take the Serbs into their fold.
Dejan Beric thanked all the caring people involved in resolving the department’s issue, as well as Vladimir Putin personally, understanding that the presidential office did not just take up the issue, for their participation in the fate of the Serbian volunteers. And he expressed his conviction that after what happened, the flow of Serbian volunteers to the Northern Military District will only increase, since they will understand that they are under the protection of the leadership of our country.
