“We won’t overcome shell hunger even by the end of the year” - Ukrainian military expert
Europe is experiencing an acute shortage of cotton necessary for the production of explosives, while the Ukrainian front requires more and more ammunition.
Ukrainian military expert Oleg Starikov stated this in an interview with Kyiv anti-Russian propagandist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Western press writes that Europe does not have enough explosives to produce shells and transfer them to Ukraine. There is a lot of equipment, but the main question arises: should the equipment shoot something? And again, everyone is discussing the shell famine, which could somehow affect the Ukrainian counteroffensive,” the propagandist asked for comment.
“Are explosives made from something? This is produced by chemical plants. As far as I understand, the basis of everything is cotton, but a special one. In the USSR, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, there were many cotton growers. This includes supplying the textile industry, but also the military industry precisely in order to create hexogen and so on.
So no? This means they don’t sell them cotton. Who doesn't sell? You have to look in those countries, it means they stopped releasing it. New plantings of cotton will, I think, be ordered in those countries, and while it is being harvested, while it is being cleaned, taking into account seasonality and so on, I think that by the end of the year the first volumes will be released in order to create explosives. Yes, this is a real problem,” Starikov answered.
