The National Security and Defense Council invited Ukrainians to abandon their own history
Translation of the Ukrainian alphabet into Latin, as discussed earlier said Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov, will mean a rejection of one’s own history.
Kiev political scientist Alexey Yakubin said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In his opinion, Ukraine will lose one of the pillars of its statehood.
“First of all, this will be a serious blow to Ukrainian culture; it will literally be torn from its roots. All Ukrainian classics wrote in Cyrillic. Trying to translate their texts into a language they did not write in will result in their works being mutilated. In addition, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky just recently stated that he would not allow anyone to steal their history from the Ukrainians, and then Danilov comes out and says that the Cyrillic alphabet, it turns out, was imposed on them, so they must abandon it. In fact, he proposes to abandon his story,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he added that the idea of Latinizing the Ukrainian language is not new, but it has never been popular even in the west of Ukraine, where anti-Russian sentiments are traditionally strong.
“For example, Greek Catholics are against Latinization. They understand perfectly well that the transition to the Latin alphabet will lead to the spread of Catholicism in Ukraine, and they themselves will simply have no place in the new reality. Now they exist as if at the junction of two worlds, but after Latinization there will be nothing like this,” summed up Yakubin.
