“Of course, the actions of this Prague municipality can hardly be called anything other than outrageous and cynical; they contradict the 1993 agreement with the Czech Republic, which contains obligations to ensure the safety of military monuments, care, obligations to ensure access to them, and statements by the Czech authorities that the agreement has been violated I wasn’t, they are, of course, from the evil one.

I drew attention to the statement of Czech President Zeman, who said that it was “stupid and ridiculous” what was done to this monument. To be honest, there is little funny here, but the fact remains that the agreements that underlie our relations over the past almost 30 years were undermined.

We are assured that this monument was municipal property, but we know for sure that this is not so, because before its demolition this monument was included in the republican register as an object, and we proceed from the fact that the issue can be resolved exclusively in accordance with the provisions of the mentioned agreement,” Lavrov said.

“An interesting detail came to light: as you know, the decision was made by the municipality of Prague 6, which is headed by Mr. Kolář. So, the father of this Mr. Kolář was an employee of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an ambassador to the United States and Russia, and now works as an adviser to an American consulting company that prepared conclusions for Czech municipal officials to justify the demolition of the monument.

I think this detail is not without interest. But we will strive to fully fulfill the obligations of our Czech colleagues under the 1993 agreement and really hope that they understand the risks of further aggravation of this situation,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
