“The decision is very important, we used our constitutional powers and set the date for the elections. We, as legislators, provided the Central Election Commission with a legal framework and did everything to make the elections as transparent as possible. The election campaign will start on December 18,” said Chamber Speaker Valentina Matvienko.

The decision of the Federation Council on elections is subject to publication in the Rossiyskaya Gazeta and the Parliamentary Gazette no later than five days later. After the publication of the resolution, the election campaign officially begins. It is planned that the resolution setting the date for the presidential elections will be published in the official media on Monday, December 18.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he would participate in the elections as a self-nominated candidate. Besides him, more than 10 people have announced their intention to run for office: politicians, journalists, public figures and artists.
