Poroshenko visited a grape farm in the village of Belyaevka, where he got acquainted with the process of growing and harvesting grapes, and also talked with winegrowers and winemakers. There he said that he knew how to grow grapes and could make wine from them.
“Few people know what it is to grow grapes. When it gives the first harvest, it means tying it up in the spring, pruning it... I went through all this... then harvesting it, then providing subtle technological processes so that a miracle will appear later,” he said.
“Ukrainians have been making wine for more than a thousand years. We must do everything to revive winemaking, and Ukrainian wine glorified Ukraine throughout the world,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
He also recalled the “hard times” of Soviet prohibition during the Gorbachev era.
At the end of the meeting with the winemakers, Poroshenko invited the owner of the winery to treat his colleagues.
“But it’s better to drink wine not here, at the table. It’s better to drink in the basement near the barrel,” added the Ukrainian president.
