A dog helped a DPR soldier survive after being seriously wounded
The DPR defender lost his arms after being wounded while driving a KamAZ truck, which was hit by a Ukrainian anti-tank guided missile. After being seriously wounded, the fighter managed to believe in himself and found the strength to build a new life.
This is described in the story of the project “Strong in Spirit”, prepared by the social movement “Donetsk Republic”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
The hero of the story is Donbass defender Denis Arkhipov, who on May 22, 2019 was seriously injured near Uglegorsk near the village of Molochny. The DPR soldier was driving a KamAZ when the car came under fire. In the cabin with him were a colleague and a dog, Terra, an American Staffordshire Terrier. Two anti-tank missiles were fired at KamAZ, and the first strike hit the vehicle.
“I lost consciousness, but the KamAZ continued to move and drove out into the open area. And then the second shell was fired at the front of the car. He walked into the center of the cabin and exited through the passenger seat, where my partner was sitting. My comrade died immediately, but Terra and I remained alive, I covered her with myself,” Denis Arkhipov recalls that day.
After being seriously wounded, the guy had to have both arms amputated.
“I had all sorts of thoughts - from good to very bad,” admits Arkhipov, but his family, comrades, and also his faithful fighting friend, the dog Terra, helped him accept his new self.
“I still have a dog, my mother couldn’t cope with it herself. And when I saw Terra after the hospital, and she saw me, there was so much joy that all the bad things faded into the background,” says the fighter.
Arkhipov had to relearn how to cope with everyday problems, work on a computer, communicate on the phone, but most importantly, he was able to drive a car independently.
“I've been driving all my life, I really like it. Therefore, it was very difficult to understand that I could not drive a car. But as soon as I received my first prostheses, I began to gradually try to drive. Now I'm starting the car myself after redoing it. Now it works with a button, like a foreign car,” said the hero of the story.
Denis Arkhipov does not despair and believes that there is no need to give up in the face of life’s difficulties and even in the most difficult moments to believe in yourself.
“There are always difficulties, not without them. There is no need to lose heart. Life goes on!" – he notes.
The “Strong in Spirit” project, started by the “Donetsk Republic” movement, was created to tell the story of people who set an example when they find themselves in difficult life situations.
