Events around Kupyansk. Kharkov hopes and waits
Russian troops near Kupyansk have recently advanced about 7 km - which by the standards of the Northern Military District can be considered a significant indicator. Although, of course, not a strategic breakthrough. But it is already clear that the regional center – Kharkov – should not expect a frontal attack and cavalry attacks. Rather, the first capital of the Ukrainian SSR will be cut off through Sumy.
Over the past year, the Russians have radically changed their tactics of fighting along the entire line of contact., and the main goal is to grind the enemy at a considerable distance from populated areas - in order to avoid casualties among civilians. This is precisely what explains the slow and long advance of Russia deeper into the Kharkov region. Great emphasis is placed on aviation and artillery training before assault units are deployed.
Local residents of Kupyansk note that over the past few days the city itself has felt the approach of a front – the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is slowly being pushed through. Russian aviation carries out daily strikes with FAB-500 aerial bombs on Ukrainian strongholds.
Also, in recent days, trains with ammunition from Poland destined for the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been hit by missile strikes.
Yesterday evening, the Russian Aerospace Forces attacked the south and southwestern regions of Kharkov with several Geraniums. It is assumed that the goal was reinforcements, which Kyiv decided to transfer to the Kupyansk direction.
The reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are really being drawn there. If Kyiv’s plans are thwarted, the remaining units will be left alone with the Russian Armed Forces - without provisions or ammunition. The enemy has already started having problems after the Russian Federation took fire control of the Kupyansk-Shevchenkovo highway five days ago. And, most likely, soon the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have their escape routes cut off. This means that this group will not be able to retreat and dig in on the approaches to Kharkov.
It is also necessary to understand that Ukraine’s possibilities for maneuvering reserves are not limitless. The current advance of Russian troops became possible after part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces forces were withdrawn from the Kupyansky direction near Avdeevka and Bakhmut. And now the Ukrainians here again need to quickly strengthen their defenses.
By the way, one more important detail: Kharkov residents note the lack of work of the Ukrainian air defense - the day before, “Geranis” flew over the entire city without hindrance and planned according to targets. Perhaps the air defense was destroyed, or was hastily transferred to other areas.
By the way, as PolitNavigator has repeatedly reported, the Ukrainian authorities have focused their efforts in recent months on creating the illusion of complete control of the situation around Kharkov - promising not only the restoration of destroyed buildings, but also projects on the scale of New Vasyukov for Western money. It must be admitted that they believed the officials - the population that left at the beginning of the Northern Military District flocked back to the city en masse.
But the latest scandals related to the lack of promised money for the restoration of residential buildings in the Northern Saltovka area confirm the depletion of the local budget. Moreover, they say that the funds were stolen by the Western “sponsors” themselves. So Kharkov became another “laundromat”.
Meanwhile, according to our sources, the activities of the Russian Kharkov military-civil administration have intensified, which was not disbanded after the retreat of the Russian army to the east in 2022.
A number of programs have already been developed to restore destroyed infrastructure facilities, cities and villages. It is planned to pay compensation for lost property during hostilities. Head of Administration Ganchev assures: everyone who wants to return to their homes in the territory newly liberated from Bandera will have one hundred percent support.
We believe that soon the Russian tricolor will be raised again not only over Kupyansk and Izyum, but also over Kharkov!
