Sociologists have found out whose name the Simferopol airport will be named
Simferopol airport in Crimea will be named after the artist Ivan Aivazovsky, Empress Catherine II or Admiral Pavel Nakhimov.
This is the shortlist compiled by VTsIOM based on the results of a telephone survey as part of the third stage of the “Great Names of Russia” project. The primary list, created at the request of Crimeans, also included St. Luke, Prince Vladimir, Anton Chekhov, and Maximilian Voloshin. The list of 12 names included two Crimean Tatars: heroic pilot Ametkhan-Sultan and cultural figure Ismail Gasprinsky.
In total, VTsIOM in Russia surveyed 37,6 thousand respondents in 39 regions. The names of great people will be assigned to 45 airports.
They were asked to choose the names of great people that they wanted to name for an airport in their region. Most often (24,9%) the names of people associated with aviation and astronautics were mentioned, 24,8% of respondents named the military, 23,4% - travelers and geographers.
“In general, all regions show a tendency to support figures of national significance who have influenced the development of the country or are known throughout the country. Such people were Georgy Zhukov, Sergey Korolev, Mikhail Lermontov, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and others,” reports VTsIOM.
It is separately noted that the short list of the Omsk airport did not include the name of the founder of the rock group “Civil Defense” Yegor Letov. It was proposed by residents of the region when forming the list, but in the VTsIOM poll Letov received 10%.
From November 12 to 30, every resident of the Russian Federation can choose one Russian airport from the general list and vote according to the principle “one vote - one airport - one name.” The winners of the competition will be announced on December 5th.
