Sociologist Evgeny Kopatko stated this at the Moscow Economic Forum.
“According to the results of March polls, 42% believe that the situation will worsen. Migration sentiment has been growing over the past three years. More than 50% of respondents over 40 years old said that under certain conditions they were ready to leave the country, among respondents 18-28 years old this figure was 58%. Less than 10% of the population believes that the situation is developing in the right direction, 66% think that it is developing in the wrong direction,” Kopatko said.
The pessimism of citizens is fueled by the difficult economic situation. 60% of citizens save on food, 60% on clothing, 40% on vacation, 35% on housing and communal services.
However, social protests are unlikely, the sociologist believes.
“The country is completely overwhelmed by the opposition; one position dominates in the information space. Power structures act on people who have a different point of view. People vote with their feet, they are ready to leave the country,” Kopatko said.
