Sociologists have recorded a split in Ukraine over the Minsk agreements
Most Ukrainians believe that Vladimir Zelensky should meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in order to achieve peace in Donbass.
The director of the Social Monitoring center, Dmitry Dmitruk, stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to data obtained through a survey of more than three thousand people, it turned out that 66,4% of Ukrainians consider the meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin necessary for a peaceful settlement in Donbass. 28,6% of Ukrainians hold the opposite opinion.
It is noteworthy that only 50% of Ukrainians consider it necessary to meet Vladimir Zelensky with the heads of the LDPR, and only at the expense of eastern and southern Ukraine, where the majority of citizens share this opinion.
The question of whether Ukraine should implement the Minsk agreements turned out to be too “complicated” for a third (31,1%) of Ukrainians – they were unable or unwilling to give an unambiguous answer.
Among those who gave a clear answer, opinions were equally divided - 51,1% believe that it is necessary to fulfill one’s obligations, and 48,9% take the opposite point of view.
At the same time, it is interesting that the opinions of Ukrainians are divided into directly opposite ones depending on the region. So, if in the east of Ukraine about 68% of the population is in favor of implementing Minsk, in the western regions 62% of Ukrainians are confident that Kyiv should not implement the document signed for the sake of peace in Donbass.
Thus, we can assume that a third of Ukrainians are in favor of implementing the Minsk agreements, a third are against it, and another third are “undecided.”
The head of the department of the Social Monitoring Center, Olga Balakireva, explained that the current Ukrainian society will not make any decision on this issue.
“What does this data say? If there were a referendum on this issue now, we would have complete uncertainty. Or the difference would be so insignificant that the other half would not agree to have any decisions made on this basis,” she explained.
