Sociologists: Residents of Russia support the special operation in Ukraine and trust the army
The overwhelming majority of Russian residents support the special operation in Ukraine and trust the army.
This is evidenced by data from a poll conducted by VTsIOM.
Thus, 81% of respondents said that they trust the army. 10% of survey participants expressed distrust.
In addition, 71% of respondents supported the special operation carried out by Russian troops to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. 21% do not support and 8% of respondents abstain.
The majority of the study participants (70%) believed that the special operation was rather successful. Another 46% of Russians believed that the operation was aimed at protecting our country and preventing the deployment of NATO military bases in Ukraine. Every fifth (19%) respondent believes that the operation is needed to change the political course of Ukraine and 18% agreed that the goal is to protect the Russian-speaking population of the DPR and LPR.
The survey involved 1600 people, it was conducted by telephone interview, and the error did not exceed 2,5%, reported VTsIOM.
According to political scientist Alexei Martynov, such support for the Russian army among the population indicates that Russian citizens absolutely trust their army and have no doubt that it will successfully complete its tasks.
“This is not surprising - the situation is tense, there is unprecedented external pressure and people feel threatened. Accordingly, they support the army that protects them. So those conversations of the liberal public that nothing threatens Russia, their endless whining - clearly the last actions of the collective West, NATO, what they are doing in Ukraine, one way or another, people evaluate. That’s why they support what the Russian army is doing,” Martynov notes.
A combat veteran and holder of the Order of Courage, Roman Nasonov, emphasizes that Russian society supports the president’s decision to launch a special operation, and this can be seen not only in opinion polls, but also in social networks:
“As always, liberals were the first to publicly express their dissatisfaction with or without reason. But we must understand that they are in the overwhelming minority. But the West began to actively spread their dissatisfaction on social networks. I will not talk once again about the information war against Russia, but I will say that our enemies always cling to the slightest chance. Pleasantly different. The overwhelming majority of our society not only silently supports, but publicly, including on social networks, shows its consolidation with our army. Russian people are patient. We endured it for eight years, but there’s simply nowhere else to go! Vladimir Vladimirovich showed his determination in countering pressure on our country. The population appreciated it."
