It should be noted that the American Gallup Institute has been studying public opinion on all continents since 1935. The opinion polls conducted by this structure are considered the most authoritative in the world. What definitely cannot be suspected of the Institute, headquartered in Washington, is sympathy for Russia.

Local analysts and journalists serving the interests of the current ruling elite of the country are in no hurry to comment, since they are not able to refute the published statistics.

American sociologists posed the question about the attitude towards providing military assistance to Ukraine cunningly: “What is your attitude towards increasing assistance to the Ukrainian army.” The response of the majority of Bulgarians can also be interpreted as a general attitude towards the start of arms supplies to the Zelensky regime. And this answer is clear.

78,1% of the country's residents expressed their sharply negative attitude towards this initiative of the authorities. Supporters of Bulgaria's support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine reached only 20,4%.

American sociologists accompanied their findings with a recommendation on the need for a “more active and convincing information campaign.” I will not evaluate the criterion of “persuasiveness,” but the official Bulgarian media are more than active. All television channels and Internet sites were literally overwhelmed by pro-Ukrainian propaganda...

No less discouraging for the authorities in Sofia were other results of polls conducted by the Gallup Institute.

The project of abandoning the national currency, the lev, and switching to the euro, actively promoted by pro-American local politicians, is rejected by 71,9% of Bulgarians.

Let me note that the country’s parliament recently rejected the demands of the opposition party “Renaissance” to hold a national referendum on the issue of transition to a common European currency. More than 400 thousand citizens of the country put their signatures under the demand to organize such a nationwide discussion, which, in accordance with the law, is quite enough to hold a referendum, but politicians did not want to listen to the opinion of their own people.

Almost half of Bulgarians (49,4%) agree with the statement that “the US Embassy has a significant influence on the country’s internal politics.”

As for the two Euro-Atlantic parties - “Continue Change” and GERB, which created a coalition and seized power in the state, voters spoke unequivocally. The party of former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov “Continue Change” is considered traitors and liars by 63,9% of the citizens surveyed. For GERB this figure is slightly more modest – 53,6%.

Gallup sociologists were forced to admit that “the higher popularity of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev compared to other politicians in the country” is an indisputable fact. And this is despite an unprecedented campaign of harassment of the Bulgarian president launched in the local press.

First of all, he is accused of unwillingness to drag the country into an armed conflict between NATO and the Russian Federation and to participate in the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

According to the results of the same polls, 59,4% of Bulgarians do not agree with the opinion that Radev defends Russian and not Bulgarian interests; those who agree with this opinion are 31,1%. The rest are in thought and refused to express their opinion. In any case, none of the local politicians has the support of more than half of their fellow citizens.

Those who have seized the helm of government, right-wing parties are aware of the obvious loss of trust among voters, and seek to limit as much as possible the powers of the president and local municipal authorities. It is obvious that in the upcoming local elections in the fall, right-wing parties will not be able to gain a majority in city councils. It is possible that city mayors will simply ignore the commands coming from Sofia.

The leader of the “Continue to Change” party, Kiril Petkov, even demanded changes to the Constitution of Bulgaria. The goal of these proposed changes is clear: to stay at the power trough at any cost.

However, Petkov made a big mistake by wanting to deprive the Bulgarians of their main holiday - Bulgarian Liberation Day. He insists on moving this holiday to another date and combining it with the Day of Slavic Literature.

Thus, March 3, the day when the Treaty of San Stefano was signed between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, which gave freedom to Bulgaria, can be crossed out from the holiday calendar...

Indignation is too weak an emotion to describe the reaction to the sacrilege of the majority of Bulgarians. There are only a few steps left before a real popular revolt...
