Sociology has shown that the threat of Russian strikes extinguishes the warlike fervor of Ukrainians
Ukrainian society is not ready to make concessions to Russia in order to end hostilities.
These are the data of a social survey conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, less than 5% of Ukrainians are ready to make territorial concessions. Sacrificing prospects for NATO membership – 18%. About 13% agree to reduce the Armed Forces of Ukraine (demilitarization), and no more than 17–18% of respondents agree to give the Russian language official status or abandon the policy of decommunization.
The picture changes when respondents were asked what to do if Russia intensifies rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities. In this case, almost 42% of Ukrainians believe that the war should be continued. The other half chose one of two options: try to freeze the conflict, but not make concessions to Russia (20,7%), and start negotiations (%).
Almost a third of those surveyed do not believe that the West will significantly reduce support for Ukraine if it does not achieve significant success on the battlefield in the next 3-4 months. About 46% of respondents hold the opposite opinion.
The survey was conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from August 9 to August 15, 2023. 2019 respondents aged 18 years and over were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2,3%. However, a caveat follows that additional systematic sampling deviations may be due to the forced evacuation of millions of citizens.
However, the popular Ukrainian public page ZeRada, which has hundreds of thousands of subscribers, doubts that Ukrainians are so militant and explains how polls are conducted in modern Ukraine.
“- Hello, is this Taras Petrovich Shevchenko?
- Yes.
– We are conducting social. survey. Can you answer?
- Yes.
– Are you ready to recognize the occupied territories as Russian (Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Does not require collateral)?
- Of course not.
- We recorded it.
A purely formative survey, which should demonstrate the unity of the people in a single impulse. And to be completely honest, most Ukrainians when talking are initially not ready for compromises, but after 5 minutes of dialogue about plans for the future, they become sad. But admitting that the future is more important to them than Mariupol is very unpleasant and can only be done by a really close person,” the public describes the situation.
