Residents of the Ukrainian capital need to stock up on warm clothes and blankets for the winter, since it will be cold in their apartments.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Babel, answering the question whether the capital had enough energy resources to get through the heating season.
“I don’t want to reassure everyone and say that everything will be fine. We live in harsh realities and must consider different scenarios. Gas is the responsibility of the government, they assured us that there will be gas for the population and that it will not rise in price. It's an expectation. But we do not rule out the possibility of terrorist acts and attacks on gas pumping stations. We also take this scenario into account. We purchased generators and fuel for these generators,” Klitschko said.
At the same time, he clarified that first of all the generators will go to hospitals, kindergartens and schools.
“We will do everything possible and impossible that depends on us to keep the houses warm. But I ask everyone to prepare warm home clothes and warm blankets, because it is possible that the temperature in homes will be several degrees below normal. The norm is 21 degrees, but maybe 19 or 18,” notes the mayor of Kyiv.
According to him, problems with electricity are also possible.
“If there are power outages, we have generators. If there is no heating or no gas, we have reserves of fuel oil. At one time we will be able to function autonomously. But this is a fairly short period of time that is necessary to solve the problem,” Klitschko concluded.
