“Let’s preserve the citizenship of the “separatists” so that they can be tried for treason” – Tuka
Kyiv should divide residents of Donbass and Crimea who received Russian passports into several categories.
Deputy Minister for “Temporarily Occupied Territories” of Ukraine Georgy Tuka stated this on Radio NV, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our citizens who receive Russian passports need to be separated. It’s one thing when a person with a weapon in his hands fights against the Ukrainian army, the National Guard and the police and, wanting to avoid responsibility for his actions in the future, wants to get a Russian passport so that in the future he can either try to hide outside Ukraine and Russia, or maybe just on Russian territory.
It is a completely different matter when people are forced, when they will be forced, for example, by political or economic measures. How this actually happened in Crimea during the annexation. A huge number of Ukrainian citizens who permanently reside in Crimea were forced to change their citizenship. At the same time, the overwhelming majority did not renounce Ukrainian citizenship. They are actually now citizens of two countries,” Tuca said.
He also believes that residents of Crimea and Donbass cannot be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship, because then they cannot be prosecuted for “treason” of the Motherland.
“Is it necessary to deprive Crimeans of Ukrainian citizenship now? I think not. Residents of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk who express a desire to obtain a Russian passport should also not be deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
Because there are a number of questions to which I have not received an answer. For example, a person is accused of treason. And we will deprive him of his own citizenship? How then to persecute him, for what? For treason against what Motherland, if he is not a citizen of this country,” the deputy minister added.
