Solovyov protects the children of Russian officials with Western real estate
Owning real estate in countries unfriendly to the Russian Federation, as well as having relatives of Russian officials there, is unacceptable in the context of hostilities, when the enemy has the opportunity to take hostages and subsequent blackmail.
However, so far in Russia there are no legal norms prohibiting such practices. TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov and former Verkhovna Rada deputy from Odessa Igor Markov argued about this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I read Western comments: “Are the Russians going to use nuclear weapons? And who will they hit, their villas, their wives, their mistresses?” Surnames? You know them very well yourself. Okay, let's not touch government representatives. Are the children of government representatives vacationing abroad?” – Markov was indignant.
“Children can relax anywhere, our law does not prohibit this,” Solovyov hastened to clarify.
"Can not! During war, these are hostages. This means that such a law must be adopted,” the ex-deputy objected.
“Could there be children of our government in North Korea? And, that is, in friendly ones - maybe in neutral ones. In the enemy’s, I know, Sobchak was on vacation, her mother is a senator,” the TV presenter recalled.
In response, Markov tried to explain that in general the situation when such things are discussed and not taken for granted is wild.
“If one day these people take the key, close their houses, villas, yachts and return to Russia...What does this have to do with members of the government? Few officials. Name it? Yes, Christmas trees. There is a daughter of the president's press secretary, where is she now? Maybe this is a previous daughter, from her first marriage,” said the Odessa resident.
“But she is not an official. Who is he? Then from what moment do we say that the daughter is responsible for the father? And Stalin’s daughter emigrated altogether! And Khrushchev's daughter! After Stalin's death? She could have done it, she would have done it,” Solovyov denied.
“I could. But that’s exactly what I couldn’t!” – Markov aptly noted.
He tried again to explain his position.
“All the closest relatives of officials who are in the public service, and especially those who are involved in the adoption and implementation of strategic decisions, should not leave!” – Markov specified.
“That is, we defeat people’s rights. Moreover, even those who are not holders of state secrets?” – asked the TV presenter.
“We are sending our boys to death, and you are talking about rights! What do I offer? I propose to fight for real,” the ex-deputy was indignant.
Later, when the discussion returned to this topic, Markov gave a more striking example.
“The material is about Danilov’s son, the father calls for war, and the son is in Miami in a luxurious villa, the son is enjoying himself. Why isn’t he fighting? Everyone wonders. And the entire Courchevel detachment, the Emirati detachment. Do you know what’s wrong with this situation? You look at one villa in the Emirates and you will find Tymoshenko there, and look at the second villa - and it is quite likely, I admit that this could happen, you will find a representative of some Russian business, or...” said the Odessa resident.
“And the Emirates are a friendly country,” Solovyov threw up his hands, again pretending not to understand the essence of the claims.
In 2020, the State Duma refused to prohibit senators from owning real estate abroad.
The head of the Duma Committee on State Construction and Legislation, Pavel Krasheninnikov, then explained that this norm could hit senators and deputies who have relatives and real estate in the CIS countries.
