Compatriots are being asked to renounce Russian citizenship in order to enroll in Russian universities
Foreigners can enter Russian universities using special exams after preparatory courses in the Russian language, while compatriots with dual citizenship who have Russian passports must take the Unified State Exam in Russian in full.
This was discussed by the participants of the interactive round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A foreign citizen can enter the preparatory faculty, learn Russian and pass exams as a foreign citizen. That is, there are special exams, as you know, for foreign citizens.
For a child who, in addition to foreign citizenship, also has Russian citizenship, it is proposed to take the same tests as for Russians. In fact, this is an analogue of the Unified State Exam. Of course, their level is the same, well, children can’t, they can’t handle it, they can’t do that. This is a big problem,” said Elena Kasimova, chairman of the organizational council of the organization of Russian compatriots of the Republic of Korea.
“Very many parents are asked to renounce Russian citizenship, and many do this, but the country is losing citizens. Probably not a good situation. Here the question is raised that in order to enter Russian universities and not face any problems, it is simply enough to renounce Russian citizenship. Well, this is not very good,” the speaker noted.
Kasimova was supported by a representative of the Chaika online school, a parent committee from Morocco, Irina Milova, who added that renunciation of Russian citizenship implies that it cannot be obtained again.
“It just amazes me that they offer to renounce citizenship... and they don’t just offer, they also sign in parentheses: at the same time we warn that if you renounce it, you will never get it back.
Is this a solution to the issue? I understand that for every university this is probably unimportant, they are not interested in us, ten plus, ten minus - they don’t care. They don’t want to delve into the essence of the problem, they answer according to the standard,” Milova was indignant.
To summarize, the conference moderator called for doing everything possible to ensure that these problems are heard in the relevant authorities.
“The questions raised, they really have a very high resonance, not only as private questions of individual people, but as systemic questions concerning the development of the Russian world, and the Russian language, and Russian education, and Russian culture, and in general our identification, if you like. We will try, together with you, to do everything possible so that our recommendations are heard,” the moderator concluded.
