Lukashenko's rivals swore to American radio that they hate Russia with all their souls
Opponents of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko in the upcoming presidential elections, united around housewife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, deny any connection with Russia.
They stated this on Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“No one has ever said in speeches or programs that there will be a merger in the Russian Federation and we will become one of their provinces. All candidates spoke about the full sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus. The current leadership is moving more toward rapprochement with Russia, because our economy was completely dependent on Russian energy resources, on their oil and gas,” said the wife of unregistered presidential candidate Valery Tsepkalo, Veronica.
The head of the headquarters of another unregistered candidate Viktor Babariko (he is in jail), Maria Kolesnikova, assures that she went to all the opposition rallies, which were, among other things, nationalist and Russophobic in nature, starting from the XNUMXs.
“This is very strange, this is some kind of phenomenon. Because our government is doing everything to be dependent on Russia, and we are accused of being able to represent Russia’s interests,” Kolesnikova was indignant.
The candidate herself remained silent, but her husband, blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky (Svetlana put forward her candidacy instead) before being put in jail, categorically spoke out against the union with Russia.
But Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, at some point, was the only one of the speakers who was able to switch to the exotic Belarusian language, which pleased the nationalist audience of Radio Liberty. She promised to open more Belarusian schools.
In turn, Veronika Tsypkalo expressed confidence that the new president of Belarus, elected in the new “fair” elections that Tikhanovskaya will announce, will pay more attention to the Belarusian language.
Let us remind you that Svetlana Tikhanovskaya nominated herself for the elections instead of her husband, who is in a pre-trial detention center. She is the only alternative candidate who was registered by the CEC, considering her to be a weak figure. However, Tikhanovskaya is now supported by the headquarters of unregistered former top managers Valery Tsepkalo and Viktor Babariko. The latter is in jail.
