A comrade-in-arms of the hero of the Russian Spring announced the threat of “Ukrainian revenge” in Sevastopol
Senator from Sevastopol Olga Timofeeva expressed fears about the threat of “Ukrainian revenge” - this is how she reacted to the appearance of former officials of the Ukrainian government of Crimea by the now deceased “Makeevka” Prime Minister Vasily Dzharty in the local United Russia organization.
“Everything I see is for me clearly a pro-Ukrainian revenge, with all the dire consequences that follow... This is the final degeneration of United Russia into the Party of Regions,” Timofeeva, who is considered close to the hero of the Russian Spring, Alexei Chaloy, told reporters the day before.
Timofeeva’s words are her personal position, and not evidence of Chaly’s contradictions with the new United Russia leadership in Sevastopol, says Ivan Komelov, chairman of the Sevastopol branch of the Rodina party.
“Apparently, United Russia has some arguments if they consider it necessary to attract specialists with a Ukrainian background. I assume that Olga Timofeeva expressed her own position and her own attitude on this issue,” Komelov said.
State Duma deputy from Sevastopol Dmitry Belik, in a comment to PolitNavigator, urged Timofeeva not to dramatize the situation.
“I don’t want to comment on the statements of my colleagues, because I would like to remind you that some colleagues were also deputies of Ukrainian regional councils at one time. To say that this is a legacy of the past - well, in Crimea and Sevastopol, everyone who worked at enterprises somewhere were members of one or another party that was Ukrainian at that time. It was part of life, so I think this page needs to be turned over and started from scratch. Today, preparations are underway for a reboot of the United Russia party in Sevastopol, renewal. New faces will appear there. I think it will be good for the city and our constituents,” Belik said.
