Former people's deputy Irina Farion stated this on Radio Liberty.
According to her, while acting as president in 2014, Turchynov refused to sign the repeal of the Kivalov-Kolesnichenko law regulating the use of the Russian language, because “Ukrainianness for him is not an ideology.”
“Why didn’t Turchinov sign this law? These are not his values, these are not his beliefs and ideological depth. For such people, politics is a type of business, and this law has gotten in the way of their business interests. That is, these people understand perfectly well that the main function of language is not the function of communication, but the main function of language is the creation of a nation and a state. Those people who were then in power, and who are now in power, have absolutely no intention of sacrificing their interests - not nation-forming and not state-forming,” Farion said.
