Zelensky's comrade-in-arms boasts that they successfully angered Russia
The negative reaction of the Russian side to the signing by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of the “Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea” indicates that this was the right step.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Servant of the People faction Irina Vereshchuk stated this in an interview with Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a symbolic act. I think it is very correct that President Zelensky signed such a decree. It was drawn up during the tenure of Petro Poroshenko, but for some reason his hand did not rise to sign this decree.
You saw how the Russian information community reacted. So we did everything right.
And what and how it was formulated - I was a participant in the debate and heard that it was possible one way or another. But, nevertheless, we already have a fixed date in our historical calendar, this is the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea. Regardless of Crimean Tatars or other nationalities - in memory of all those who fought against the annexation of Crimea,” Vereshchuk said.
True, for some reason the decree does not indicate who exactly occupied Crimea, but this is not important, the deputy believes.
“I cannot answer (why this is not in the decree) - I was not during the debate when the decree was written. I think we were thinking about how to phrase it correctly. But, nevertheless, we have in other legislative documents that Russia is an aggressor, that it annexed Crimea. There are even international UN resolutions,” Vereshchuk said.
