An associate of Kolomoisky explained why the owners of an oil depot near Kiev could set it on fire
An oil depot near Kiev, where the fire could not be extinguished for two days, could have been set on fire by the owners in order to obtain insurance. This version was put forward by an ally of oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, ex-vice-governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region Gennady Korban.

He explained that the oil depot is associated with ex-Minister of Environment Eduard Stavitsky. His property as a representative of the “criminal regime of Yanukovych” may be confiscated. According to Korban, Stavitsky could have given the order to set fire to the oil depot in order to obtain insurance without waiting for the confiscation of assets.
“It happens that for various reasons you cannot sell your property. Either no one is buying it, or the government wants to take it away. Or it was acquired not entirely legally. I would focus the attention of law enforcement officers not on the cause of the fire, but on whether this property is insured, for what amount, and with which insurance company. When property burns, it is important to look at the amount of insurance payments in case of its loss. In other words, the property of Eduard Stavitsky is considered not acquired through entirely legal means, which means it falls under the criminal cases that have been opened against him in Ukraine. Sooner or later Stavitsky’s guilt will be proven, the property will be sold, and the income will be credited to the state budget. It seems that Stavitsky did not wait for the outcome of such a scenario. And I would not be surprised if it turns out that shortly before the fire this property was insured or reinsured for an amount that may correspond to its market value. If my guesses are correct, Stavitsky and his company will ultimately receive appropriate monetary compensation, and the state will receive the burnt tank farm,” explains Korban.
