Remembering the independence that Ukraine received in 1991, it is necessary to take into account that the country has a thousand-year history of statehood behind it.
MP from Batkivshchyna Ivan Krulko said this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today we celebrate the 27th anniversary of the restoration of state independence of Ukraine, since Ukraine has a thousand-year history of state-building. It would be logical and correct to say that it was on August 24, 1991 that Ukraine renewed its state independence and, probably for the first time in many centuries, received the right to create and recreate its own state,” Krutko said.
“I was ten years old then, I had just finished third grade in my hometown of Khust in Transcarpathia. Did this day mean something to me at that moment - yes. Because for me, the Ukrainian independent state began a year and a half earlier. In March 1990, a large rally of the People's Movement led by Vyacheslav Chornovol was held in Khust.
