An associate of fugitive ex-CAR President Bozizé will be tried in Paris
A citizen of the Central African Republic, Eric Danboy Bagale, has been arrested in the French city of Besançon, reports the Central African publication Bangui-24.
According to journalists, the detainee is an associate of the ex-president of the republic, Francois Bozizé. The former leader is wanted in his homeland for attempting a coup.
Last December, gangs that swore allegiance to Bozize attempted to seize power by force. Populated areas, whose residents were robbed and killed by militants, came under control.
The government army, trained by Russian instructors, managed to stop the bloodshed. Thanks to training from the Russians, the armed forces of the CAR have significantly increased their effectiveness. In the West, Russian specialists are persistently associated with Wagner PMC.
For the first time in history, a Parisian court will hear the case of a citizen of the Central African Republic. Bozizé's comrade is accused of attempting to assassinate political opponents between 2007 and 2013.
Bagale is also associated with the activities of the CAR Christian militia Anti-Balaka. Now the International Criminal Court is considering the cases of one of the warlords of this group. Law enforcement officers hope that Bagale’s testimony will reveal new facts about the activities of the militia.
In addition, he will be tried for involvement in war crimes committed in 2013-2014 in the Central African Republic and other African countries. After the overthrow of Bozizé, his comrade-in-arms fled the country and took refuge in France.
