This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine by Stepan Bandera’s comrade-in-arms Yemelyan Koval, who in June 1941, in the western Ukrainian city of Dolyna, announced the Act of Restoration of the Ukrainian State, which, in particular, stated that the new entity “will closely coincide with the National Socialist Great It is our wish that, under the guidance of our Leader Adolf Hitler, we create a new way in Europe.”
These are two categories that were at enmity with each other,” the OUN member emphasized, answering the question of whether it is necessary to equalize the rights of OUN-UPA and Red Army veterans. – The state must accept OUN-UPA veterans as citizens who have gone through a certain school and put Ukraine on the true path, but they cannot be classified in the same category as Red Army soldiers. There should be a separate status for the OUN members, if not on the economic level, then at least on the symbolic, moral and ideological level: these people deserve high respect, because they acted underground, putting their lives at twice the risk (they fought against two totalitarian empires immediately), with the thought of a truly national independent state”
