This was reported by the press service of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
“This morning, at one of the checkpoints on the border with Russia, two Russian citizens approached representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The Russians stated that they were in one of the political blocs opposed to the current Russian government and asked for political asylum on the territory of Ukraine,” the report says.
The men arrived at the checkpoint and, presenting their foreign passports of Russian citizens for control, immediately expressed their intention to receive protection on the territory of Ukraine.
“During the filtration activities, which were carried out jointly with SBU officers, it was established that these citizens are representatives of the party of Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny and are being persecuted for political activities. Both men were allowed across the border in the prescribed manner and sent to the migration service,” they added in a message from the border agency.
