Neighbors set an example for Ukraine: In NATO - without the lands of New Russia!
The current pro-Western parliamentary majority of Moldova is ready to abandon the idea of returning Transnistria under its control for the sake of integrating Chisinau into the European Union and NATO. Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, recently the speaker of the country’s parliament, Andrian Candu, said that Moldova is ready to renounce its claims to Transnistria for the sake of European integration.
“There can be no discussion here. This is definitely our future. There can be no compromise on this issue. This is not the price for the reintegration of Moldova that can be discussed. If it turns out that the price is a refusal of European integration, then our answer will be no, we are not ready to pay that price,” Candu said.
This idea was opposed by Moldovan President Igor Dodon, whose Socialist Party hopes to improve its results in the upcoming elections. “This is what the unionists who seek accession to Romania say,” Dodon said.
In the PMR, the idea of pro-Western politicians from Chisinau was approved.
“Andrian Candu’s statement about his readiness to give up Transnistria, if this is necessary for the integration of the Republic of Moldova with NATO and the EU, caused a positive reaction in Tiraspol,” the publication writes.
It should be recalled that the current capital of Transnistria received city status in 1795. Tiraspol then became the center of the created district of the Novorossiysk province.
The pro-Western authorities of Ukraine announced that in the near future the country’s Constitution will be changed to include clauses on the prospect of membership in NATO and the EU.
In 2014, Kyiv lost control over Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk - residents of these regions opposed the pro-Western course.
With the approval of the EU and the US, the Ukrainian authorities also managed to suppress the Russian uprising in Odessa, Kharkov and other south-eastern regions through repression and murder.
