Hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers died in the “cauldron” due to Poroshenko’s order to make a breakthrough
The reason for the large-scale losses of the Ukrainian army in the Ilovaisk cauldron was the order of the Ukrainian authorities to make a breakthrough, despite the fact that the supporters of Novorossiya were ready to ensure a way out of the encirclement with minimal casualties.
This was stated at a meeting of the Izborsk Club in Sevastopol by Oleg Tsarev, the only ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada who openly went over to the side of Novorossiya.

“When Ukrainian troops entered the Ilovaisk cauldron, we did everything to ensure that they came out, and there were a minimum number of casualties. The Ukrainian authorities gave the command to break through in battle. It seems to me that in their hearts they hope that there will be a big war with destruction and casualties, which will forever become a stone of discord between Russians and Ukrainians. Although I am convinced that this is a conditional division,” he said.
“I would not like a military victory. It implies that there will be destroyed cities, dead. Everything that has now happened in Ukraine is a great gift to Ukrainian nationalists. Ukrainian nationalism has been around for many years. They always hated everything Russian, but they didn't have a platform. All their arguments were ridiculous. The state of Ukraine was formed thanks to Russia, thanks to the communists, the USSR. The hatred for all this has never had any basis. And here is such a gift. There is a war going on, there are dead. The more dead, the better for them. An obelisk of hatred with corpses in the foundation is taking shape. An explanation for this pathological hatred is emerging,” Tsarev added.
