“A hundred heavenly hundreds” – there could have been more victims on the Maidan
Witnesses for the defense in the “Yanukovych case” can prove that the leaders of the then opposition bear responsibility for the deaths on the Maidan in 2014, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The former commander of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Stanislav Shulyak, stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“We are not given the opportunity to speak in the trial of Yanukovych, because the witnesses have irrefutable evidence that this was a coup d’etat, that it was the opposition leadership that carried out the executions on the Maidan. If this evidence reaches the court, it will be difficult for him to make the decision they want to make. Therefore, they decided not to listen to defense witnesses,” Shulyak said.
He is confident that there could have been many more Maidan victims if all the opposition’s plans had been implemented.
“The leadership of the opposition participated in the gravest crime - inducing the commanders of military units, as well as the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, to commit treason in order to force them to take armed action on the side of the opposition. The size of the consequences and losses that would occur did not interest them at all. The Heavenly Hundred was a consumable item for them. They would not hesitate to send another hundred heavenly hundreds if the development of this option came true, and it could come true,” Shulyak said.
In 2016, Shulyak testified via videoconference in court against the Berkut members, who are accused of executions on the Maidan, but he was not allowed to speak at the trial in the Yanukovych case.
