Mobile operator MTS does not care about Crimea
State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik sent an appeal to the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the MTS company with a demand to prevent the abolition of the tariff in Sevastopol and Crimea, which provides 100 minutes of free communication within the home region.
As the deputy explains in his blog, MTS, the only major Russian telecom operator operating unofficially in Crimea (numbers from the Krasnodar Territory are sold here to avoid sanctions), has planned to cancel a tariff that is critical for residents of the peninsula.
"What's the catch? In MTS’s position in relation to Sevastopol and Crimea, the company, with its eyes wide closed, pretends that the two new regions of Russia do not exist. But, if, for example, a resident of mainland Russia, having seen an SMS about an increase in tariffs, thinks about which operator to switch to, then a Sevastopol resident has a completely different thought. We have no choice - there is only one mobile operator on the peninsula. And instead of changing, we are forced to decide - who should we stop calling in order to save money? Mom or dad? Husband or wife? Children? Every call is now worth its weight in gold, because the average salary in the city is 20-25 thousand, with prices quite similar to Moscow,” notes Belik.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, mobile operators officially confirmed their reluctance to work in Crimea "Megaphone" and "Beeline."
