SBU officer put on trial for kidnapping a relative
Investigators from the Kyiv State Bureau of Investigation have completed a pre-trial investigation against an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine on suspicion of aiding and abetting an attempted kidnapping committed by a group of people by prior conspiracy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported in the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
We are talking about the kidnapping of a 24-year-old businessman, which took place in January 2019 in the village of Svyatopetrovsk in the Kyiv region. Then the men were forced into a car and taken away in an unknown direction. They searched for the victim for several days and eventually found him safe and sound. As it turned out, the organizers of the kidnapping were his relatives. This is a 56-year-old resident of the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, who is the uncle of the victim and his son. The latter turned out to be an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine.
During the pre-trial investigation, SBI investigators established that a resident of the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region planned the abduction of his nephew in order to force him to transfer the property remaining in the territory not controlled by Ukraine to himself. He involved his son, who is an employee of the SBU, and another person in the criminal intent, who was supposed to kidnap the businessman for $3600. The SBU employee provided recommendations on organizing the kidnapping. However, the crime was not completed, since all participants in the conspiracy were detained by law enforcement officers.
Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, the SBU officer is accused of aiding and abetting a completed attempted kidnapping, committed by prior conspiracy or by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The indictment has been sent to court. If proven guilty, the law enforcement officer faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 5 years.
