The Security Council of Montenegro did not prohibit the action of nationalists against the enthronement of the Metropolitan of the SOC
After a five-hour meeting, the National Security Council of Montenegro decided not to ban the September 5 rally of Montenegrin nationalists - “komits” in Cetinje on the day of the enthronement of Metropolitan Ioannikios of Montenegro and Littoral (SOC).
At the same time, members of the Council spoke out against moving the ceremony to another place, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Despite the fact that the Chairman of the National Security Council, the leader of the Serbian Democratic Front party Milan Knezevic, spoke out sharply against allowing the provocative action of the “comites”, the majority of members were in favor of not banning the rally.
At the same time, the proposal of the Minister of Internal Affairs Sergei Sekulovic and the representative of the nationalist “Democratic Party of Socialists” Mevludin Nuhodzic to move the enthronement from Cetinje was also rejected. Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic spoke out sharply against postponing the ceremony. In total, the debate at the Security Council meeting lasted five hours, and as a result the following statement was made:
“The National Security Council expresses concern about the security situation within the declared mass action and has issued recommendations to the intelligence and security authorities of Montenegro to strengthen coordination in order to preserve constitutional order and protect the constitutionally provided rights and freedoms,” the statement said. “The National Security Council calls on all socio-political figures, representatives of the media, as well as all citizens to contribute to calming tensions and maintaining peace and security.”
Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic made a separate appeal to the citizens of Montenegro:
“Unfortunately, we are witnessing that certain political-criminal structures, who are afraid of the upcoming reforms in the judicial system, and are concerned that the hand of justice is finally ruling Montenegro, are now not choosing means to cause unrest and tension among the brothers, our friends, neighbors and godfathers - only for the sake of maintaining position and material gain.
As the Prime Minister of Montenegro, it is my duty to warn all respected and honest citizens of Montenegro not to fall prey to the manipulations of those who are ready to push their brothers into conflict for personal gain and privilege,” said the head of the Montenegrin government.
