The UN Security Council extended the mandate of the European military mission in Bosnia
After several days of debate, a Resolution was agreed last night in the UN Security Council extending for another year the mandate of the EU military mission (EUFOR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which expired on November 5th.
At the same time, at the insistence of Russia, the text of the Resolution does not mention the High Representative for BiH and his administration (Office of the High Representative - OHR).
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the government of Republika Srpska sent the 26th report on the situation in the country to the Security Council meeting, which stated that the Serbian entity fully respects the sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of BiH, but also insists that other parties , both in Bosnia and abroad respected and implemented the points of the Dayton Agreement.
The Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, in turn, said at the meeting that there is no High Representative in BiH, since the appointment of Christian Schmidt does not comply with international law, and he himself OHR became a source of problems in the country. Speaking about the High Representative Valentin Inzko, who left in August of this year, and about the amendments he introduced to the Criminal Code, introducing criminal liability for denying the false “genocide in Srebrenica,” Nebenzia said that Inzko’s behavior provoked and aggravated division and strife.
“The pressure on Republika Srpska is growing. You only blame the Serbs and demonize everything that the Serbs do,” said the Russian representative to the UN.
In turn, the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the UN Security Council, Geng Shuang, said that it is necessary to avoid imposing decisions on the people of BiH from the outside, they must resolve their own issues, and OHR and his exclusive “Bonn powers” (to impose and repeal laws, to remove officials at all levels) are echoes of the past.
As a result, no mention of the High Representative for BiH and OHR. Let us recall that Christian Schmidt, who illegally occupies this post, previously sent a report to the UN Security Council in which He accused “Serbian separatists” in provoking a new war in Bosnia.
