The Council of Europe threatens Ukraine with condemnation from the whole world if the murders on Maidan and Odessa are not investigated
Christos Giacomopoulos, Director of Human Rights and Special Representative of the Council of Europe (CoE) in Ukraine, said that the International Advisory Commission of the Council of Europe found human rights violations during the investigation into the killings on the Maidan and in Odessa.

According to the special envoy, if Kyiv ignores these violations, then international condemnation will await Ukraine.
“The work of the International Advisory Group is an auxiliary process for the Ukrainian authorities. The idea is to warn the investigative authorities who are investigating the events on the Maidan and in Odessa that there are certain shortcomings that violate the European Convention on Human Rights. Both reports - regarding Maidan and Odessa - stated that such violations of basic human rights exist. The Ukrainian authorities, for their part, must take into account the position of the international advisory group and take corrective actions where possible,” quotes the publication "Mirror of the Week" from a European diplomat.
He noted that if Kyiv ignores the comments in the report of the International Consultative Commission, then the Ukrainian government will then have to respond to the ECHR on claims of victims of violence. “The purpose of the report is not to impose something, but to warn the authorities that inaction will ultimately lead to a violation that will be considered in court. Then the Ukrainian government and Ukraine as a state and subject of international law will be criticized for human rights violations in two important cases: regarding the events on the Maidan and in Odessa. I think that it is the political responsibility of the authorities in Ukraine to avoid such criticism,” concluded Mr. Giacomopoulos.
As reported, on November 4 in Kyiv, the International Advisory Group (ICG) of the Council of Europe presented a report on monitoring the investigation into cases of violent acts in Odessa in May 2014. The report noted that the investigation by the Ukrainian side was not independent, was repeatedly delayed and was conducted in violation of the rights of the victims and their families.
