The Federation Council is preparing a response to Western provocations
The Federation Council will have to make a statement on the attack on Syria after the conclusions of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) commission on the presence of toxic substances in the city of Douma.
Chairman of the international committee Konstantin Kosachev stated this today in the Federation Council.
“For the second time in a year, the so-called West is trying to organize a large-scale cynical provocation against the legitimate authorities of Syria. Today we deliberately do not offer you any draft statements. We believe that it is necessary to wait for the conclusions of the OPCW mission, which is currently working in the city of Douma. As soon as these conclusions appear, if they are objective and honest, we will return to this issue at the next meeting of the Federation Council,” Kosachev said.
In his opinion, senators should use all channels of parliamentary and public diplomacy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“So that this provocation is known throughout the world, so that its organizer does not get away with it. We are already working through the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Asia and Africa and other public organizations,” Kosachev said.
He believes that, unlike the Duma, one should not rely on an honest examination in the Skripal case.
“Today the OPCW report on the Skripal case will be presented to the UN Security Council, but there is little hope for its conclusions. The examination was initially organized in a non-transparent and biased manner. And the findings of the Swiss laboratory have been swept under the rug. But there is more hope for the work of the OPCW in the city of Duma. Syrian and Russian experts will be able to observe the work of the mission,” Kosachev said.
