The Federation Council discussed a project against the falsification of history and the rehabilitation of Nazism
At the Joint Meeting of the Committees of the Federation Council, they discussed “the draft appeal of the Federation Council to the parliaments and peoples of the world on the inadmissibility of falsifying the history of the Second World War and the rehabilitation of Nazism.”
The document was presented by the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The third draft of the agenda: “a draft appeal from the Federation Council to the parliaments and peoples of the world about the inadmissibility of falsifying the history of the Second World War and the rehabilitation of Nazism.”
Returning to the draft of our appeal, we conclude this appeal with the words of a call to the parliaments of the peoples of the world - not to allow the distortion of historical truth, to counteract the glorification of former members of the organizations of the Nazi, fascist, Bandera and similar nationalist movements, their current heirs and successors.
Bring to justice those who deny the Holocaust and genocide against “non-Aryan” peoples, insult the memory of the liberators and glorify their executioners.
The final words of our project, I would like to quote them: “Our common duty is not just to honor the memory of those who died for freedom and peace on the planet, but also to defend with all our might today the just cause for which they fought and gave their lives. In this case, we will have a chance for a common future, free from wars, misanthropy and hostility,” he declared.
The parliamentarian also emphasized that attempts to revise the results of World War II are a crime against history.
“I, as one of the co-authors of this project, admit that of course I felt a natural desire to respond in essence to those of our opponents and enemies, primarily in the West, who are trying to distort the history of the Great Patriotic War and belittle the significance of the Victory Day.
But I would like to immediately draw the attention of those who, perhaps, will propose to raise the degree of this document, to increase the intensity... after all, our appeal goes to all peoples without exception, to all parliaments of the world without exception.
Among them, fortunately, there are many more of our allies and like-minded people than of our opponents. This predetermined the nature of the proposed project. We, of course, also address those complex controversial issues that are on everyone’s lips.
But we, first of all, offer our own assessments, our own attitudes to this history and to the holiday of the Great Victory, and at the center of our appeal is a mention of the fact that, after all, assessments of that war, assessments of the results of that war formed the basis of the work international tribunal, the so-called Nuremberg Tribunal.
The charter of this tribunal was developed by the winners - the Soviet Union, the USA, Great Britain and France, and it is the conclusions of the Nuremberg Tribunal that dot the i’s and are not subject to revision.
But attempts to revise and conclude the Nuremberg Tribunal and, following this, the entire history of the Second World War, the reasons for its course, its outcome - these are not only attempts to falsify history as such, and not only scientific discussions. This kind of action, as we say in our project, appeals are immoral, they are illegitimate in nature, they are criminal in relation to the memory of those who gave their lives for the liberation of the world from obvious evil.
And, moreover, we remind those of our opponents who are most actively raising this topic that, by doing so, they are betraying the memory, including of their own compatriots in these countries, who stood on the right side of history in that war, according to the right side of the front line, and fought,” he added.
The senator further noted the work of the Russian Foreign Ministry to ensure that the project is reflected in UN documents.
“Our diplomats continue to work to ensure that these formulations are reflected in the documents of the United Nations, in particular, work is now underway on a draft resolution for the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, this is item 131 of the agenda of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, in the draft these wording is reflected.
We are already faced with the fact that a well-known group of Western states, engaged in rewriting history, is doing everything to ensure that this draft, as amended, proposed by Russia and a group of other countries, is still not allowed to be adopted. And as of today, mid-April, the co-authors of the Russian document were no less than 31 countries of the world, 31 member states of the United Nations.
Well, in the longer term, corresponding work is underway to include similar wording in the draft anniversary declaration on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations, but this is a more recent story – September-October next year,” concluded Konstantin Kosachev.
