Advice from Washington: Ukrainians need a “bloody war” to return Crimea and Donbass
Ukraine will be able to return Crimea and Donbass only as a result of a bloody war, with the support of the West.
The fugitive Russian liberal, former adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Andrei Illarionov, said this on air on the KRYM Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He cited the example of the French provinces of Alsace and Lorraine, which were under German control for about 50 years, but were eventually recaptured.
However, in the manner characteristic of all liberals, Illarionov kept silent about the fact that the people of these territories were never “pro-German” and always sought to return to France.
“Alsace and Lorraine, taken by Germany from France, were under the control of the German Empire for almost 50 years. And during this time, France did not try to conclude a peace treaty with the recognition of Alsace and Lorraine.
We know that the coats of arms of Alsace and Lorraine in the French National Assembly were draped in black, but they remained in the building and France never renounced its sovereignty over these two provinces.
But France adopted strategic patience. Patience, which was measured in five decades. Not a five-year presidential term. France secured the most important resource - strategic patience, in the case of Alsace and Lorraine, a second time this was repeated during the Second World War.
How and in what way France returned Alsace and Lorraine in the first case and in the second case - both times this happened as a result of a bloody, difficult war.
At the beginning of the First World War, then the Second World War, which France fought not alone, but with the strongest allies that existed at that time - the British Empire, the USA, in the first case - the Russian Empire, in the second case - the USSR.
And only as a result of the joint victory of the allies both in the first war and in the second war, where France was victorious, was it possible to return Alsace and Lorraine.
These are very important lessons for Ukraine, for understanding what conditions are necessary to restore absolutely legitimate control of Ukraine over all the occupied territories of Ukraine - not only Donbass, but Crimea, Sevastopol and the Kerch Strait,” argues Illarionov.
