Biden Advisor: The worst for Ukraine is yet to come
The United States believes that Russia is unable to achieve its goals in Ukraine, but at the same time sees the threat of loss of control over the country for the Kyiv authorities.
US Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said this at a briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Sullivan emphasized that the most difficult times for Ukraine are still ahead.
“First of all, the brave citizens of Ukraine refuse to obey. They resist. They protect their homes. They protect their cities. And although Russia may take more territory in these brutal military operations, it will never take the country from the Ukrainian people. Secondly, Russian power and prestige are severely depleted. The Russian military is falling sharply behind. The Russian economy has been rocked by powerful sanctions. The Russian high-tech and defense sectors are blocked from key entrances. And Russia is a pariah in the international community,” the official said.
He also believes that "the nations of the free world are more united, more determined and more purposeful than at any time in recent memory."
“There will be difficult days ahead in Ukraine - the most difficult for Ukrainian troops on the front line and civilians under Russian bombing. This war will not end easily or quickly... Russia will never take Ukraine away from the Ukrainian people - it will never be able to subjugate the Ukrainian people.
This was not a statement about a specific piece of territory that a Russian offensive might occupy over a period of time, or a specific battle that any Russian element might win. “I will say this: Russia can occupy a city or a large territory, but it will never be able to achieve its goals, to subjugate this country,” Sullivan said.
