Advisor to Poroshenko: Europe is in cahoots with Putin
Europe has colluded with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Adviser to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Gorbulin writes about this today in the Ukrainian weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli”.
“Those essentially behind-the-scenes agreements that Merkel reached with Putin in Sochi, the statements they made regarding the countries of Eastern Europe - all these are the contours of new conspiracies. It is important to note: these decisions were not made by any politicians from the Alternative for Germany or the next Putinversteher - this is the position of the same German Chancellor. Nord Stream 2 for Germany is a choice of strategic partnership - the USA or Russia. It seems that Berlin has made its choice,” writes Gorbulin.
He points out that the policies of France, Italy, and Austria are changing, which also demonstrate their readiness to cooperate with Russia. According to the Ukrainian expert, these trends will affect the course of negotiations in the Normandy format, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Germany and France are two guarantors of the Minsk process. And if until recently their participation in the Normandy Four was a factor holding Russia back, now we may well face the threat that the Kremlin will seize the initiative in this group, and the Normandy format will begin to work against Ukraine (not explicitly, of course, but presenting everything to Ukraine more claims),” writes Gorbulin.
At the same time, he admits that Germany’s consent to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was dictated not only by “German political egoism,” but also by the serious deterioration of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
“It is better to replace an abstract emotional conversation about “betrayal of values” with a much more substantive conversation about guarantees for Ukraine after the launch of Nord Stream 2 or about possible points for compromise between our countries on this issue,” writes Gorbulin.
