Advisor to Poroshenko about the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy: “Hellish hell, practically nothing works”
A critical situation has developed on the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, the patrol ship “Getman Sahaidachny”: the frigate’s equipment components are failing en masse, and “almost nothing is working.”
This was acknowledged by Advisor to the President of Ukraine Yuri Biryukov, speaking about the technical condition of the ship.

“The equipment there is Soviet-style, produced in Soviet times. No one considered energy efficiency, no one thought about convenience. And yes, it’s hell on the ship right now, almost nothing works. Refrigerator compressors are flying, stove tops are burnt out. The standard water desalinator never worked at all; it broke down in the early 90s and a small American desalination plant was installed next to it, which saves the ship. Do you know that a cubic meter of fresh water in African ports costs $200? The sailors learned about this while performing tasks off the coast of Somalia. And using the remnants of kitchen equipment they are trying to prepare food for the entire crew of the ship. It’s customary in the navy, they eat from the same pot,” Biryukov wrote on his Facebook page.
The flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, Hetman Sahaidachny, was previously based in Sevastopol, but in 2014 the crew refused to go over to the side of the people of Crimea, swearing allegiance to the participants in the coup in Kyiv. The frigate had to flee from the Russian cruiser Moskva.
“To avoid a meeting with “Moscow”, “Hetman Sagaidachny” went to Odessa through the territorial waters of Bulgaria... Through maneuvering actions, “Sagaidachny” broke away and arrived in Odessa at breakneck speed,” said the frigate’s press officer Pavel Parfenok.
