Putin's adviser: The referendum in Lugansk has the same legitimacy as in Crimea
Political decisions on the reunification of Crimea with Russia were based on the enormous work to preserve the spirit of Russian statehood on the peninsula, which was carried out throughout the entire post-Soviet period. Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Sergei Glazyev stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.

“I remember Konstantinov and I (Chairman of the State Council of Crimea - ed.) long before these events, they met many times, sometimes in a semi-clandestine mode, and took precautions. It’s not that we prepared these events, but we believed that they would happen sooner or later,” Glazyev said.
In his opinion, an important role in the success of the Russian Spring on the peninsula was played by the fact that the Supreme Council of Crimea gave legitimacy to the process of reunification with Russia, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In many ways, the Russian Spring in Ukraine choked because nowhere was it possible to ensure the legitimacy of this process of restoring Russian statehood. Only the Lugansk region can boast that there, too, the regional council met and made decisions on holding a referendum. But in Crimea there were additional reasons for this, related to the process of transferring Crimea to Ukraine,” Glazyev said.
