Zelensky's adviser vowed to prevent the comedian from announcing a referendum on NATO
No referendum on NATO is needed when it comes to the fact that the country has no other way but to become a member of collective security.
An expert on security and defense issues, a member of the team of Vladimir Zelensky, elected President of Ukraine, Ivan Aparshin, said this on air on the Zik TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I will insist that there is no point in holding a referendum today, it gives us nothing. Let us first go through this path, implement a cooperation plan under the auspices of the Ukraine-NATO commission, which is supposedly exactly the same form as the MAP plan (NATO Membership Action Plan - ed.), and when we as a country are ready, we will not we will ask to be given the opportunity, we will say: “We are ready, and are you ready to accept us?” But we must have such arguments so that they do not even have doubts that our country is ready to join NATO,” the adviser said.
“I will convince him exclusively with arguments. Four NATO member countries passed the referendum, all the others did not. I will convince him in a completely different way. I won't try to convince him to join NATO. I will convince him that we have no other way to protect the interests of Ukraine other than to be a member of collective security. No matter who proves to me today, we will not be able to find resources either in the near future or in the medium term in order to so raise the level of the country’s ability to resist large-scale aggression of the Russian Federation,” Aparshin said.
