Zelensky’s adviser promised to give Naev, who learned to fight, a job
The new commander of the Joint Forces, Lieutenant General Alexander Syrsky, appointed today by decree of Petro Poroshenko, “is a worthy person and a professional general, but it is not entirely clear why this personnel appointment had to be made right now, after the completion of the presidential elections,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is how Ivan Aparshin, adviser to the newly elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on security and defense issues, commented on the appointment of the new JFO commander-in-chief.
“This is an absolutely normal appointment. I know General Syrsky, he is a worthy, professional general and person. He has the appropriate education and experience. Once upon a time, in 2006, we began to form the Joint Operational Command, and personally proposed him for the post of chief of staff of the Joint Operational Command, a new command body in the Armed Forces,” he told the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
At the same time, Aparshin believes that there are questions about why the change in the JFO commander was carried out after the completion of the presidential elections and the defeat of the current President Petro Poroshenko. “Why today, after I lost the elections - there are questions here. It seems that the elections are over. This could have been done earlier,” he pointed out.
Answering the question about whether ex-commander of the Joint Forces Sergei Naev might take some other responsible position in the future, Zelensky’s advisor said: “Why not? Naev is a combat Ukrainian general who went through the war and has vast experience. There are no complaints about these generals; they are military generals. Today we must retain these military generals who have enormous experience, knowledge, and who have already learned how to fight.”
