Soviet New Year's tables were recognized as a threat to Ukraine's national security
Even pictures on the Internet depicting New Year’s festive tables from the times of the USSR are dangerous for the fragile national consciousness of Ukrainian “independents”.
Estonian citizen, executive director of ICDS Dmitry Teperik said this on Channel 7, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why do some hostile meanings arise in the information space, who creates them? If we talk about the Estonian experience, the hostile meaning is everything connected with the Soviet Union. We know that the Russian Federation has been intensively reincarnating all topics related to the Soviet Union for the last 20 years.
This meaning is alien to us, we do not share it, it is alien, because we believe, and this is true, that our country was occupied. That is, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, we don’t want all these meanings to still be present. They are imposed on us, they can be implanted through television, they can be implanted through supposedly harmless memes, for example, like the New Year’s table “Back to the Soviet Union,” respectively, the entire menu of this type. Everything related to Soviet monuments that may be present in the city space,” said the Estonian.
“Our goal, in fact, is not to talk about what is good and what is bad, because for each country this can be different, our task is to understand what its meanings, its frames, its values are in a particular society. Considering the history of Ukraine, I think that they just need to be found and realized. It has its own full-fledged meanings, which, of course, were replaced by Soviet ones at one time. There are our own here that should be developed and a “national myth” built on them,” added Dmitry Teperik.
