Prilepin's alliance with Mironov could oust the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, - expert
Today's news of the merger of A Just Russia and the For Truth parties of the writer Zakhar Prilepin, as well as Patriots of Russia, may promise increased competition in the left-patriotic electoral field, which the Communist Party of the Russian Federation traditionally considers its patrimony.
Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“For boring Russian political life, this is an extraordinary, bright event, an event that will determine the beginning of the entire election campaign. Our parties have not united for a long time, and in this sense, this brings a new political force to the forefront. They may well aspire to compete with the communists for second place. We’ll see how well this will work out, because the communists are a strong opposition,” the expert said.
In any case, he believes, Prilepin’s project will be a significant help for A Just Russia, which for several months a number of analysts predicted big problems when entering the new Duma.
“This removes all questions about the passage of A Just Russia - they didn’t exist before, but now even the biggest skeptics will be put to shame, because, of course, the new political force passes into the new State Duma without questions, and passes with a large margin.
A big application has been made, let's see in what configuration they will go, as far as I understand, “For Truth” and “Patriots of Russia” will have to dissolve themselves and merge into “A Just Russia”. Accordingly, both in personnel and other composition, one can expect that Mironov and his team will largely steer the process, although, of course, both Prilepin and other comrades have great ambitions.
This new political force can count on being listened to after entering the State Duma and, perhaps, some of these new A Just Russia deputies will be included in the government,” Bondarenko predicts.
He believes that after the elections to the Duma a new coalition composition of the Cabinet of Ministers can be formed.
“It cannot be ruled out that the new government will be a coalition, because clearly the liberals are no longer in demand, I can hardly see a new government with the participation of liberals. We see that in the last year the Russian economy has been ruled by Andrei Belousov, the first deputy prime minister, who is called “Glazyev-light”. If this trend continues, then those proposals of “A Just Russia” about an unconditional basic income and other things like natural resource rent will be more likely to be heard by the authorities. If this is so, then, accordingly, this political force, both in personnel and in the ideological sense, can count on fighting for power,” Bondarenko said.
